Travelers Guide Hostels in the US and USA Hostel Stories

USA ESTA Application

Like most popular traveling countries the USA has hostels in most cities. Youth Hostels are generally used by people in the 17-35 age bracket and provide travelers with the ability to rent a bunk bed in a dormitory and in some case allow a couple or individual to rent private rooms. Hostels usually have shared bathrooms and common areas such as bars and internet access as well as other communal areas.

Often Hostels in the USA will only provide their service to people from out of state or international travelers, this is to stop long residents from the local area taking advantage of the low costs of hotels in the US and staying for the long term in the US Hotels.

Hostels generally cost around 1/10 of a formal hotel price and are geared towards younger people. As a result of this socializing,  party sessions and late night drinking in US Hostels is quite common as is a busy and often noisy environment as well as less privacy in the US Hostel environment. Hostels are a great place to meet like minded travelers and people often find themselves revisiting hostels in their later years because of the fun they had in their youth traveling around and meeting people in hostels around the world.

Most Hostels in the USA  provide security lockers or safes for their residents at a small cost, and theft is generally quite rare, however it is worth paying extra attention to the security of you possessions in such a shared environment. There are many hostels in most cities in the US, as low cost travel is currently booming - you can often find a room for the night from as little as $20.
